This Sunday should be interesting

As Puck Hogs player Yama 2 puts it:

Isnt it kind of odd that the Kodiaks (2-1) and the Phantoms (2-1) tied for 2nd/3rd will be playing Sunday while we (3-0) play the Volcanoes (3-0) for 1st/2nd?  Almost like it was planned this way 4 games in?  Seems like a playoff night.  Ok reading this, it does not seem that odd, but it really is, matching records on matching nights to decide alot.

There’s going to be some sorting out of the Bronze League this weekend.  It’ll be interesting to see where the chips fall at the end of Sunday.

Monday Musings: Back to the future

How interesting…

Not to keep harping on our early exit during last season’s playoffs, but here’s more harping.  Last season, had we gotten by the Kodiaks in the first round, we would have played the Volcanoes in the second round of the playoffs.  But, of course we were knocked out by the bears.  They went on to play the Volcanoes instead of us, but lost and were eliminated.

This time, having beaten the Kodiaks (who actually were missing some key players) in our rematch, the schedule has us facing the Volcanoes.  It’s too bad it didn’t work out this way in the playoffs but I think next Sunday should be a great game and a test of two strong teams.  Both of our teams are undefeated, and so whoever wins this game gets to sit in first place all by themselves.  This motivation will only add to the rivalry between our teams.  We were the only team that the Volcanoes couldn’t beat last season, and we’re hoping, of course, that the trend continues. It won’t go our way, however, without a huge determined effort by our team.

As for my triumphant return to the ice, it didn’t go as badly as I thought it might. Read more »

Feeling bearish

On Sunday, we play the Kodiaks for the first time since that team ended our Bronze Cup dreams in the first round of last year’s playoffs.  That game was the first time the Kodiaks beat us all season, and it stung.  Not only did the Kodiaks knock us out, but they were rewarded with a bounty for doing so.

That’s not to say that the Kodiaks weren’t a good team and couldn’t beat us.  They certainly deserved the win because they thoroughly outplayed us, particularly in the beginning of the game.  The Kodiaks came at us with a lot of speed and a ton of energy – it was obvious they wanted to win that game, bad.  After the game, the hockey director told me he thought we took the Kodes for granted and went in overconfident.  I’m not sure if we did underestimate them.  We knew that every game we played against them was a battle right to the end.  But in our last game against them, the Kodiaks certainly shocked us with their effort.
