Monday Musings: the value of beer

Who knew that beer was really THAT valuable?

After the bounty of beer put on our heads, the Kodiaks knocked us out of our first ever playoffs  with a 3-0 shutout.  Their entire team played well.  So, we’re 0-1 all time in the playoffs.  Our first season – great as it was – is now effectively over.

This was the Kodiaks’ first win against us in four tries, as we took the other three games during the pre- and regular season.  This is not to say that we took the Kodiaks for granted this game, because we didn’t.  We knew how good they were and that they had the potential to beat us.  The Kodes came out very strong and very hungry, dominating us early.

We played hard and didn’t quit all game, but we just couldn’t make it happen for some reason.  I can’t question the effort of any one of our players, and in that sense we can’t hang our heads about this loss.  Simply stated, the better team won last night. They have some very good skaters and skill on their roster and evidently all they needed was a little extra motivation.  And, they were rewarded with their promised liquid gold.

A bounty on our heads

Our friend, Dawgs30 (goalie for the Ice Dawgs), is at it again.  Our first round opponents for the playoffs, the Kodiaks, put this up on their website:

…Ice Dawg goaltender has offered to purchase adult refreshments (aka Skatetown Ale) to all the Kodiaks if they can pull off the upset of the hogs.  While the bears don’t need the extra inspiration, who are they to decline the offer?

I would suggest to Dawgs30 that he put his money where his mouth is and play goal for the Kodiaks when we face them tomorrow night.  Otherwise, don’t ask other teams to do what his own team couldn’t this season.

As for the Kodiaks, I’m looking forward to a great and competitive game.  Funny that the Kodiaks captain hadn’t mentioned this bounty to me when we sat next to each other at the captain’s meeting last night, but whatever.  With any luck, the Kodiaks will have to pay for their own beer at the end of the night.
