It’s a goal!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! I have a lot of catching up to do…

Two weeks ago, we played the Flying Wizards for the first time this season, and lost out in the shootout 4-3.  Despite the loss, I think we could take a moral victory out of that game considering that we were trailing early and came back to tie a team that has regularly dominated their opponents this season.  We’re still on the “road to recovery” after our slow start this season, so it’s nice that the game had some positives we could take.

Personally, there was an even bigger positive for me, as I finally scored a goal after my nine month drought (the last time I scored was on January 20, when we were still in the Bronze League!), which is coincidentally the typical length of a pregnancy.  So, I’m happy to announce the birth of my new baby goal, at a healthy 5.5 ounces!  Let’s hope it’s not another nine months before I score again.  I wonder what the over/under is on when I’ll get my next one.

In recent weeks, Jones3 offered a reward to the person who would set me up with a goal, and for those weeks the $1 went unclaimed, but not for lack of trying.  I just constantly would miss the net, fan on passes or just lose the puck.  He finally took matters into his own hands and fed me a goalmouth pass during the Flying Wizards game that just required me to tap in.  I got the goal, and he saved himself the dollar.

Monday Musings: Turnabout is fair play

Posted in Monday Musings, Puck Hogs, Silver B League with tags , , , on May 20, 2008 by Singh10

Last Friday’s match was an interesting game, of sorts.

The game was our second against the Pints this season.  We opened Summer 2008 against them about a month ago, and in that one the Pints scored three unanswered goals in the third period to overcome a 4-2 deficit and win the game.  And, if you pay any attention to this blog, you’d also know there was some bad blood that came out of that game as well.

So, our rematch against the Pints had a bit of a compelling backstory to it.  It was the late game and I think both teams came out a little sluggish.  However, other than some silent treatment, the game was quite cleanly played by both teams, and this time it was our turn to score three unanswered goals in the third period to win the game.  Somehow, we just came alive in the third.  Personally, my game between the first two periods and the third period was like night and day.  My legs (what little I have) showed up, and I was skating much better in the final period.  Perhaps this happened to our entire team, because we blew open a fairly evenly matched game.  In fact, to that point, the Pints carried much of play.  Our goalie played an amazing game – he stopped all kinds of chances and left nary a rebound.

Monday Musings: The B in “Silver B” doesn’t stand for “Bodychecking”

Well, after a month off from league hockey, we’re all back and much improved! Not really.

For the most part, it was a fun night for us Silver Bees in the new league, other than a few serious exceptions (which I will discuss below).  We played the Pints in our first (preseason) game and lost 5-4, despite carrying a 4-2 lead in the third.  In Bronze, that would have gotten us the win.  In Silver B, such a lead got us a win loss.  We can’t take anything for granted in the new league and need to play a full 45 minutes.

Puck Hogs postgame BBQ 2008-04-18We were disappointed in our loss after the game, because of how we gave up three goals in the second half of the third.  To console ourselves, we stuffed ourselves with food.  We had a postgame potluck BBQ which was a lot of fun.  We hastily organized it after Heikila22 (here and ever more to be referred to as “Bacon Bits“) brought up the idea a day before.  We got it together and crashed Skatetown’s patio, where the Flying Wizards were already having their postgame BBQ.  However, the Flizards were most welcoming and let us use their grills instead of us having to set up ours. We may have lost our first game in Silver B, but I’m proud to say that we are now tied with the Flizards in postgame BBQs.

However, despite the fun we had, Silver B’s opening night wasn’t without its problems…
