It’s a goal!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! I have a lot of catching up to do…

Two weeks ago, we played the Flying Wizards for the first time this season, and lost out in the shootout 4-3.  Despite the loss, I think we could take a moral victory out of that game considering that we were trailing early and came back to tie a team that has regularly dominated their opponents this season.  We’re still on the “road to recovery” after our slow start this season, so it’s nice that the game had some positives we could take.

Personally, there was an even bigger positive for me, as I finally scored a goal after my nine month drought (the last time I scored was on January 20, when we were still in the Bronze League!), which is coincidentally the typical length of a pregnancy.  So, I’m happy to announce the birth of my new baby goal, at a healthy 5.5 ounces!  Let’s hope it’s not another nine months before I score again.  I wonder what the over/under is on when I’ll get my next one.

In recent weeks, Jones3 offered a reward to the person who would set me up with a goal, and for those weeks the $1 went unclaimed, but not for lack of trying.  I just constantly would miss the net, fan on passes or just lose the puck.  He finally took matters into his own hands and fed me a goalmouth pass during the Flying Wizards game that just required me to tap in.  I got the goal, and he saved himself the dollar.

My goal scoring streak would end at one game, as the following week (last week), we played the Ice Dawgs for the first time this season.  They were missing several regulars, including Dawgs30 – their goalie – and so it wasn’t quite the same thing as a game with the Dawgs is normally.  It was missing Dawgs30’s verbage.  But, it was definitely a tight game, and we were able to come out with the win by the end of it.

We’ll get our crack at Dawgs30 tonight, as he’ll be subbing in net for the Pirates.  Both of our teams will be a bit short.  The rink had decided to schedule games on Halloween night, and our game falls right in prime time trick-or-treating hour.  Understandably, a few of our guys simply can’t make this game because they will be taking their kids out.  Others are trying to juggle things around so they can take their kids trick-or-treating and also make this game.  It’s not the most convenient scenario.  When this season began, I had requested that this game be rescheduled but apparently there wasn’t an available time to move this game.  So, we’ll have to grin and bear it and see what we (and the Pirates) can organize on the ice.  It does look like both teams will be able to ice the minimum six players, so it neither of us likely needs to forfeit.

A final note for the week is that it looks like we’ll be retiring the postgame BBQs for the season.  We had them quite regularly last season, and a couple of times this season.  But, with the (now) cold and wet weather, we’re taking the party indoors.  After the Flying Wizards game, our team reassembled at Roseville Family Pizza for postgame food and drink.  It was a great location for us – it’s minutes away, no one has to cook, good food and things for the kids to do.  We’ve gone there twice now, and they’ve treated us quite well. We’ll probably now be going there quite regularly after our games.
