Monday Musings: The return of RDA
Sometimes players get on a line together and just click. This is what happens when Jones3, Wong24 and yours truly play together as a line known as “RDA” (insert echo here). For only the second time as Puck Hogs, we played together again against the Pirates on Sunday, combining for six goals and six assists. The reunification of RDA also brought an end to my pointless slump (as predicted by Jones3).
The three of us started playing together as RDA back when we was Flyers during Winter 2005-2006. But what exactly does “RDA” stand for?
One night, on a drive to Stockton to catch a Stockton Thunder game, the three of us were recalling old 80s shows that we used to watch as a kid (or in Wong24’s case, as a fetus). We started talking about the show MacGyver and how the main character could build anything out of random objects to get himself out of trouble.
We had a game the next night, and in the locker room the three of us kept singing the MacGyver theme, much to the confusion of our teammates. We decided then that we would name our line in honour of the great Richard Dean Anderson, star of MacGyver.
The chemistry we had as a line kept us together for that entire season as we generated all kinds of goals but rarely got scored on ourselves. It’s an interesting line because we are very different players individually, but none of us acts as the ”number one” guy on the line; we feed and feed off each other. Jones3 is the sniper of the group and Wong24 brings grit and determination. I add in a dose of playmaking and passing. We play well together, but even more important is that we have so much fun doing it.
Our differences complement each other, and we definitely have a certain chemistry. Some of that is just based on how well we know each other – we know where each of us likely are on the ice and what we’re likely to do. This is what makes RDA’s whole greater than the sum of its parts.
So, thus was born RDA. Watch out Bronze League, we’re back.

You guys aren’t going to start crying and hugging are you? Oh crap here come the butt slaps. Besides I’m still waiting for that much anticipated Vince & Vince line to form up.
